Yewen Renyi Interviewed Dr. Pan Junjie:

Yewen Renyi: In performing complex vascular lesion interventions and high-risk stent procedures, what key experiences can you share?

Dr. Pan Junjie: My expertise lies in treating coronary artery stenosis and blockages. While current therapies are well-established, each case requires tailored strategies. We utilize advanced tools to assess blood flow, plaque composition, and other critical factors. For example, depending on lesion characteristics, we might choose conventional balloon angioplasty, cutting balloons with microblades, diamond-coated rotational atherectomy burrs (spinning at 150,000–200,000 RPM), or intravascular lithotripsy.

Of particular concern are severely calcified vessels—what we call “stone-like arteries” where imaging reveals bone-density calcification and no elasticity. These demand extreme precision: using diamond drills to polish the vessel lumen smooth before safely deploying stents or balloons. Always, I prioritize patient education pre-procedure—explaining risks, benefits, and rationale for each approach to align expectations and reduce anxiety.

Yewen Renyi: How do you perceive public understanding of cardiovascular disease prevention?

Dr. Pan Junjie: While basic health awareness exists, deeper knowledge gaps persist. Take a recent case from November 2024: A patient self-discontinued statins, turned to unverified remedies, and progressed from 40% to 95% coronary occlusion within a year—nearly culminating in myocardial infarction. Such episodes underscore why we emphasize medication adherence and science literacy alongside acute care.

Yewen Renyi: In your practice, how do you integrate humanistic care with cutting-edge technology?

Dr. Pan Junjie: Technology—like 3D-printed aortic stents or advanced angiography—enhances precision but never replaces the physician’s human role. As Immanuel Kant articulated in Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals: “Act so that you treat humanity… never merely as a means, but always as an end.” Every treatment plan must account for the patient’s psyche, lifestyle, and social context. High-tech tools exist to serve, not distance. Aortic stent deployment via holographic imaging gains true meaning only when paired with a hand on the shoulder and tailored reassurance.

Yewen Renyi: What personal growth insights have you gained recently?

Dr. Pan Junjie: Continuous challenges—from rare arrhythmias to leading the Qihang Health Expert Team—force relentless learning. I’ve refined not just clinical skills but also leadership, communication, and self-care. Confucius said, “The wise find joy in water; the benevolent find joy in mountains.” Balancing technical rigor with philosophical reflection, I now prioritize work-life harmony—modeling health as both practitioner and advocate. Each healed patient nourishes this purpose, while mentoring younger colleagues reminds me: medicine’s soul lies not in stent sizes or drill speeds, but in sustaining humanity’s fragile vessels, both physical and emotional.
