Founded in 1937, Shanghai Zhongshan Hospital honors Sun Yat-sen, the pioneer of the Chinese democratic revolution. It is one of the earliest large-scale general hospitals managed by the Chinese people. Dr. Yan Fuqing, the founder, was the first Chinese to earn a Ph.D. in public health from the US and also founded Shanghai Medical College.

Under the supervision of the National Health Commission, Zhongshan Hospital is a leading unit in creating comprehensive national medical centers and a pilot unit for high-quality public hospital development. It is affiliated with Fudan University and ranked first in national public hospitals in 2020, second in 2021, and maintained the highest “A++” rating for five consecutive years.

Managed under the leadership of the CPC, the hospital excels in cardiology, hepatology, nephrology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, and vascular diseases. It promotes multidisciplinary development and is home to national clinical research centers and key specialty projects. The hospital offers “disease-centered” one-stop diagnostic and treatment services with 33 multidisciplinary centers.

Actively engaging in social responsibilities, it sends medical teams to Morocco and supports healthcare in rural and developing areas. It has quickly responded to major disasters and public health emergencies and regularly organizes free clinics and medical consultations. Its science popularization platform “Zhongshan Health Promotion Lecturing” is well-known.

The hospital has received numerous honors, including the National Civilized Unit and the National May Day Labor Award. It is committed to building a world-class modern hospital through rigorous medical practice, advanced technology, and scientific management, adhering to a “patient-centered” spirit.
